This weekend is the final weekend of the summer. Next weekend it will officially be fall. In honor of the passing summer, we decided to be lazy all weekend. The puppies are pretty good at being lazy, except that they already have a routine down and know what time we should be taking them for their walk. So we were almost super lazy- with the exception of the required walk. We played a lot in the backyard. Miss B demonstrated proper stretching techniques for being lazy. Miss S decided that laziness should come with a required snack. Dad had been eating a cookie, so she felt it necessary to check his hands to make sure he didn't have more. Apparently there is something interesting in the grass right now because all of the puppies had to check it out. Eventually, Miss M decided it was best just to soak up the last weekend's worth of summer sun.
The last couple of days have been almost Fall-like here. We had lows that were actually in the 60's! If the ground hadn't been wet, it would have been perfect hammock weather. The first day with the nice temperatures, the ground was so wet, that we couldn't let the puppies play too much in the backyard without having to sweep and mop the floor every time they came in. Yesterday though, we were finally able to let them play a little in the yard. We were met by a visitor. The girls played outside for a while. Miss M decided that it was time to go in, and let us know. After the girls had their turn, we let the boys out for a little bro time. Once they took care of business, they stalked each other and took turns playing chase around the yard. All in all it was a good day to play in the yard.
Okay, seriously? Can't we just have a happy medium when it comes to weather? It has been dry for a little while now. Our plants were suffering a little, but it sure is easy taking the puppies outside when it's dry. Today, the sky decided to just open up. On her way home from work, Mom had to drive 30 most of the way instead of the speed limit of 65. The puppies don't totally understand not being able to play in the yard, but being the positive puppies they are, they have been making the best of the bad weather. Miss M decided to work on her chew toy in her comfortable spot on the bed next to Dad while he was reading. Mr. M and Miss S have decided that everything is okay as long as we still have Blue Bell. Mr. C had decided to just hang around the kitchen. His theory is that if the weather is bad, Mom might cook more. So if he is patient, something is sure to make its way into his mouth. Miss B has been trying hard to practice being good and looking cute. The looking cute part is easy. It's the being good part that's hard. She was looking at a calendar with Mom the other day and realized that it really isn't that long until Christmas. At the beginning of the year she had made a New Year's resolution to be good so that she wouldn't end up on Santa's naughty list. She totally forgot about her resolution. There have been months and months of being a rascal since then. Being a rascal is fun, but now that it is September, it's time to really buckle up so that she can get on Santa's good list. She has been trying her hardest to not get the others stirred up and to not try to steal their toys. It's just so hard to be good when you have so much energy.
August and September are full of birthdays in our family. This weekend, Mom had her birthday on Saturday. So the puppies had a very full day. We took them for a walk in the morning so that they got their exercise. Then we bathed them and took them with us to Grandma and Grandpa's house. The puppies immediately offered their bottle crushing services. Grandma was cooking, and occasionally Grandpa would go into the kitchen too. The boys decided that it would be best to stick around the kitchen so that they could help in case anything fell on the floor. They love helping in the kitchen. The puppies love Grandma and Grandpa's fridge. It is very puppy friendly with side by side fridge and freezer sections. At the moment, with Blue Bell back in stores, there is even ice cream right at nose level. Mr. C took the opportunity to conveniently smell the ice cream while pretending to be interested in ice cubes. Sunday, the puppies got to help Dad pull up weeds in the yard. Miss M just had one question. With all of these birthdays going on, where was the cake? She didn't believe us when we told her she couldn't have any cake. She was absolutely convinced that they needed cake too. We gave them puppy treats instead.
Today something wonderful happened. Blue Bell came back! After months and months of mourning, it finally came back. There was actually Blue Bell ice cream in the stores on Monday, but Mom and Dad didn't go to the store until today, which was probably a good thing because the stores sold out so fast. The puppies were eager to celebrate. Mr. M offered his ice cream tasting services just to make sure that it was safe to eat, but Mom and Dad knew that if they let him taste the ice cream, they wouldn't get any of it. Miss M was a little disappointed that she wasn't going to get to taste the ice cream and decided to console herself by laying on Mom and Dad's bed.
